About Scott
Scott was raised in Odessa, Texas, and has always lived in and around West Texas, except for his time attending the University of Oklahoma. Scott has over 27 years of experience in oil and gas. In 1995, he began his career assisting with the management of family-held businesses in the industry. After attending law school at Texas Tech, Scott worked as a transactional and title attorney at Cotton, Bledose, Tighe and Dawson in Midland, Texas. In 2008, he began his upstream oil and gas career with ExL Petroleum, an oil and gas E&P company headquartered in Midland, Texas, where he held a variety of roles, including General Counsel, Chief Operating Officer, and President.
Scott has vast experience in acquisition, development, and divestiture of large-scale oil and gas projects, optimization of legacy assets, legal analysis, negotiations, and strategic planning. While in the energy industry, Scott also began investing in real estate. He wound up ExL in 2022 and is currently practicing law, running a small oil and gas company focused on mineral and non-operated working interest acquisitions, as well as consulting with individuals in the oil and gas industry. Scott is involved in commercial real estate projects in Texas and Oklahoma.
While in Midland, Scott served several organizations, including the Permian Basin Petroleum Association as a Board Member and head of the Legislative Committee from 2009 to 2011. He also was active on the Trinity School of Midland Board of Directors from 2013 to 2019. Scott was recently appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation in Sanibel, Florida.
Scott and his wife Amanda live in Lubbock, Texas, and have three children, Alexander, Culley, and Anna Katherine. In his free time, Scott enjoys photographing wildlife, jet skiing, road cycling, riding his Harley Davidson, traveling the country in the family RV, and being around the ocean with his family.
Education
Scott graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. He received his Juris Doctorate from Texas Tech School of Law in 2003, summa cume laude. While at Tech Law, Scott was a member of Phi Delta Phi and the Order of the Coif.
